Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert

About the role

NTU International is seeking a Senior Climate Screening & E&S Safeguards Expert to support the EU‑funded Technical Assistance to ECOWAS in Transport Governance project. The role focuses on integrating climate resilience, environmental sustainability and social inclusion into regional transport infrastructure planning across West Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct climate screening and resilience assessments for transport projects and corridors.
• Provide technical expertise on environmental and social safeguards in line with EU and international standards.
• Review and prepare ESIAs, ESMPs, resettlement frameworks, stakeholder engagement plans and other safeguard documentation.
• Support the integration of climate adaptation, gender equality, disability inclusion and social safeguards into project preparation and implementation.
• Advise ECOWAS institutions and national stakeholders on safeguard compliance and climate mainstreaming.
• Develop safeguard procedures, methodologies and technical guidance documents.
• Deliver capacity‑building workshops and technical training on climate screening and E&S safeguards.
• Monitor, report and ensure quality assurance of safeguard‑related activities.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in environmental sciences, climate change, sustainability, or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in environmental and social safeguards, climate resilience or sustainable infrastructure development.
• Proven experience on infrastructure or transport projects in developing countries, preferably Sub‑Saharan Africa.
• Experience with international development cooperation and donor‑funded programmes.
