Head of Debate Programs (Volunteer)

About the role

We are looking for a passionate leader to design and oversee high‑quality debate and public‑dialogue programmes that foster informed civic discussion worldwide. The role is volunteer‑based and fully remote, reporting to senior leadership at Hello Debates.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the strategic plan for all debate and public‑dialogue initiatives.
• Identify emerging political, social, economic and governance topics for discussion.
• Create debate themes, agendas, research briefs and discussion frameworks.
• Conduct thorough, evidence‑based research to ensure balanced and factual content.
• Coordinate moderators, speakers, policymakers, academics, journalists and partner organisations.
• Maintain neutrality, professionalism, inclusion and public accountability in every programme.
• Monitor programme quality, audience engagement and continuously improve formats.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in political science, public policy, international relations, law, journalism, social sciences or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in debate programming, research, public policy, journalism, civic engagement or programme management.
• Strong research, analytical, writing and communication abilities.
• Proven track record of designing public‑engagement topics and programmes.
• Experience collaborating with government bodies, NGOs, universities or media organisations is desirable.
• Fluent English; knowledge of Somali is a plus.
