Security Officer – UN Support Office in Somalia

About the role

The United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) is seeking a Security Officer to join its security team in Mogadishu. Working under the Principal Security Adviser of UNDSS Integrated Security Workforce, the incumbent will support the Chief Security Officer and the Security Operations Centre in delivering safe and efficient security services for UN personnel and assets.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Chief Security Officer and Area Security Coordinator in supervising assigned security units.
• Draft, update and maintain security contingency plans and risk assessments.
• Monitor local security conditions, advise UN staff, project personnel and eligible dependents on threats.
• Participate in the Security Cell, contributing to the implementation and evaluation of the overall security plan.
• Oversee air, land and sea emergency evacuation capabilities, conduct exercises and maintain a 24‑hour Emergency Response System.
• Conduct routine physical security inspections, manage guard forces and ensure fire‑prevention equipment is operational.
• Investigate security‑related incidents and provide briefings to senior security officers.
• Prepare technical specifications for security equipment procurement and monitor equipment compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience in security operations, preferably in high‑risk environments.
• Familiarity with UN security policies, contingency planning and emergency response procedures.
• Strong analytical abilities to assess security trends and advise stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills for briefing senior officials and training personnel.
