Senior Ports and Shipping Specialist – Maritime Projects

About the role

NTU International A/S is seeking a Senior Ports and Shipping Specialist to provide technical, policy and investment support for maritime and inland waterways projects in partner countries. The role will contribute to the Global Gateway Transport and Urban Facility 2 project, focusing on sustainable, resilient transport solutions across Sub‑Saharan Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean and Asia‑Pacific.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, prepare and implement maritime, port and inland‑waterways infrastructure projects.
• Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, project design reviews and investment analyses.
• Support port and logistics master planning, multimodal connectivity and integration.
• Advise on port infrastructure development, maritime transport services and inland‑waterways systems.
• Assist procurement, tendering, implementation supervision, operation and maintenance planning.
• Promote sustainable maritime transport, port decarbonisation, energy efficiency and electrification of port operations.
• Provide guidance on green port infrastructure, circular‑economy approaches and environmental performance.
• Integrate climate‑resilience, disaster‑risk reduction and sustainability considerations into maritime infrastructure.
• Contribute to policy, regulatory and institutional reforms and build capacity of public and port authorities.
• Coordinate with public authorities, development partners, IFIs and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in maritime engineering, maritime sciences, port engineering or transport.
• Extensive experience in maritime and inland‑waterways sectors, preferably in international development contexts.
• Proven track record of delivering technical assistance, feasibility studies and investment analysis.
• Strong knowledge of sustainable port practices, decarbonisation and climate‑resilience measures.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
