About the role
The Senior Logistics Officer leads the Mission Support Centre (MSC) in Mogadishu, providing comprehensive logistics support to UN and partner missions in Somalia. Reporting to the Chief of Operations and Resource Management, the role ensures timely, gender‑sensitive, and effective logistics services for a range of clients.
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall managerial and supervisory oversight of all logistics support in fulfilment of the UNSOS mandate.
- Develop, coordinate, and monitor logistics support plans, including forecasting, supply scheduling, and urgent operational needs.
- Monitor and coordinate multifunctional logistics requirements between UN Headquarters, AUSSOM, UNTMIS, UNSOS, and other field missions.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures governing UNSOS support to its clients.
- Serve as the principal liaison on logistics matters with AUSSOM, UNTMIS, and Somali Security Forces.
- Ensure logistics preparations for civilian and military peacekeeping presence in regional offices.
- Incorporate gender‑specific needs into logistics planning.
- Advise senior management on logistics structures, staffing, and strategic alignment.
- Lead assessment missions for mandate changes or deployment adjustments.
- Manage and supervise an integrated civilian‑military mission support organization.
- Oversee Contingent‑Owned Equipment programmes and regional administrative functions.
- Chair or participate in administrative and financial bodies of the field mission as required.
- Act as certifying officer when designated and perform other related duties.
Required profile
- Extensive knowledge of logistics operations, practices, and fiscal policies within the United Nations system.
- Proven ability to develop logistics policies, procedures, and new programmes.
- Strong supervisory and managerial experience in a multi‑client, multi‑national environment.
- Excellent liaison and coordination skills with UN, regional, and military partners.
- Understanding of gender‑responsive logistics planning.
- Experience advising senior management on logistics strategy and staffing.
