Sourcing Manager – Early Sourcing Involvement

About the role

The Sourcing Manager – Early Sourcing Involvement will lead the identification and development of new raw‑material sources that are not yet commercially available. Working closely with research, process development and global procurement teams, you will secure long‑term supply for BASF’s agricultural solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and qualify manufacturing partners for novel raw materials.
• Drive joint development projects with selected suppliers to scale laboratory syntheses to pilot‑ and commercial‑scale production.
• Evaluate suppliers on technical capability, manufacturing know‑how and scale‑up expertise.
• Develop alternative manufacturing routes and supply concepts to ensure competitive, scalable supply chains.
• Monitor Chinese chemical industry trends, new technologies, capacities and emerging suppliers.
• Conduct market intelligence, cost‑driver analysis and assess strategic fit of potential partners.
• Lead contract negotiations and manage Confidential Disclosure Agreements.

Required profile

• Proven experience in sourcing or procurement of raw materials, preferably in the chemical or agricultural sector.
• Strong negotiation and contract‑management skills.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with research, process development and global procurement teams.
• Excellent analytical skills to assess market trends, cost drivers and supplier competitiveness.
• Fluency in English; knowledge of Chinese market dynamics is a plus.
