Business Development Manager – Food Manufacturing (Mogadishu)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to act as the eyes and ears of a regional food manufacturing client in Somalia. Based in Mogadishu, you will provide market intelligence on flour and pasta products, supporting senior management with pricing, volume, and competitor insights.

Key responsibilities

• Track retail and wholesale pricing of flour and pasta against key competitors across Mogadishu and other Somali markets.
• Monitor market volumes, competitor performance, and shifts in market share.
• Maintain up‑to‑date intelligence on competitor brands, pricing, product quality, availability and positioning.
• Identify, profile and evaluate key distributors, assessing their market coverage and performance.
• Report on new product launches, regulatory changes, tariffs, import requirements and trade developments.
• Prepare structured weekly and monthly reports covering pricing, volumes, competitors, distribution, logistics and market developments.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with distributors, retailers, port agents and other industry contacts.
• Serve as the primary local liaison between distributors/customers and regional management, representing the organization professionally at market visits and industry events.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of sales experience in the flour, milling or pasta industry within the Somali market.
• Deep knowledge of the flour and pasta market across Mogadishu and wider Somalia.
• Established network of distributors, retailers, wholesalers, port agents and relevant industry contacts.
• Strong commercial judgement, high integrity and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Willingness and ability to travel within Mogadishu and surrounding areas.

Required skills

• Fluency in English or Arabic (both strongly preferred).
