Community Health Officer (CHO)

About the role

The Community Health Officer (CHO) will support integrated community health services across iCCM/iCCM+, primary and secondary health‑care services in Gedo, Somalia. The role focuses on linking communities, health facilities and outreach teams to ensure coordinated, community‑centred care.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise and provide technical support to iCCM/iCCM+ supervisors and CHWs delivering integrated community health services.
• Support school health activities through mobile outreach teams, using schools as entry points for health promotion, immunisation catch‑up, Vitamin A supplementation, deworming and referrals.
• Develop monthly implementation plans, maintain functional referral pathways and coordinate community‑based, facility‑based and outreach activities.
• Conduct regular field supervision visits, facilitate coordination meetings and ensure gender, inclusion, safeguarding and protection considerations are integrated.
• Work with procurement, MEAL and management teams on logistics, monitoring, reporting and impact assessment.

Required profile

• University degree in Community Health or nursing/medical background with public health experience.
• Minimum two years of professional experience in community health mobilisation and child care programmes.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and Somali; resident of Gedo and familiar with the local context.
• Knowledge of MoH systems, SPHERE standards and experience managing and training teams.
