Principal Regional Coordinator – Africa CDC

About the role

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is seeking five Principal Regional Coordinators to lead technical programmes across its Regional Collaborating Centres (RCCs) in Africa. This senior, fixed‑term position provides high‑level technical guidance, supports the harmonised implementation of continental strategies, and integrates surveillance, laboratory, preparedness, response and workforce development activities at the regional level.

Key responsibilities

• Translate Africa CDC continental strategies into regional implementation plans, SOPs and technical guidance.
• Provide expert advice to RCC leadership and Member States on surveillance, laboratory systems, emergency preparedness and response, antimicrobial resistance and priority disease control.
• Lead situation analyses, risk and gap assessments to shape regional priorities and investment cases.
• Support institutionalisation of the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda, including digital health, public financial management and supply‑chain mechanisms.
• Collaborate closely with technical divisions at Africa CDC Headquarters and coordinate with country pillar leads.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in public health, epidemiology, health systems or a related field.
• Extensive experience (minimum 8 years) in managing regional health programmes, preferably in Africa.
• Proven track record of technical leadership in surveillance, laboratory networks, emergency response or antimicrobial resistance.
• Strong understanding of digital health solutions, public financial management and procurement mechanisms.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
