Head of Antenna – Humanitarian Operations

About the role

The Head of Antenna represents the ICRC delegation in Bossaso, Somalia, leading the identification of humanitarian needs and ensuring smooth implementation of activities across the area of responsibility. The role also manages the local office, oversees resources and provides regular reporting to the region.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the delegation’s operational strategy and monitor activities in the area of responsibility.
• Analyse the security environment, identify risks and ensure security rules are followed by staff and visitors.
• Develop and maintain contacts with regional authorities, religious leaders, CSOs and INGOs, and represent ICRC in stakeholder meetings.
• Support the communication department with stakeholder mapping, audio‑visual material and beneficiary interviews.
• Maintain constructive relations with the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and its sub‑branches.
• Produce written communications such as field reports, minutes of meetings and analytical memos.
• Manage human, financial, logistical and material resources allocated to the office.
• Oversee performance management, coaching and development of supervised staff.
• Ensure timely and accurate internal reporting on security and operational matters.

Required profile

• Excellent leadership and management abilities with at least six years of professional experience.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and presentation skills, able to make quick decisions in sensitive situations.
• Good understanding of ICRC operations and humanitarian principles.
• High level of confidentiality and commitment to teamwork.
• In‑depth knowledge of the political, economic, social and cultural context of the region.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Somali.
• Willingness to travel extensively throughout Somalia.
