National Child Participation Coordinator

About the role

The National Child Participation Coordinator provides technical support and coordination to ensure meaningful, safe, and ethical child participation across Save the Children Somalia’s programmes, advocacy, and governance processes. The role ensures children’s voices shape programme design, policy influencing and internal decision‑making while strengthening systems, staff capacity and partner engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on child participation to Programme Implementation Units, MEAL/REALM and CPAC/Communications teams.
• Coordinate child participation activities at national policy and coordination platforms.
• Support the integration of children’s voices into strategy, programme quality, fundraising and proposal development.
• Deliver training, workshops and capacity‑building sessions for staff, partners and children.
• Ensure safeguarding principles and recognized participation standards are applied in all activities.
• Maintain high‑level stakeholder engagement and represent the office externally.
• Travel frequently to field sites to monitor and support implementation.

Required profile

• Degree in Social Sciences, Child Development, International Development or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in child participation, child‑rights programming or related areas.
• Proven experience designing and implementing child participation approaches, including safeguarding.
• Strong background in training, facilitation and capacity‑building.
• Experience in child‑centred programme design, advocacy, proposal development and donor reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to work with NGOs, civil society organisations and government stakeholders.
• Desirable experience in humanitarian or fragile contexts and knowledge of Somali systems.

Required skills

• Knowledge of recognized child participation standards and safeguarding principles.
