Gardener

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time gardener in Mogadishu. The role covers garden and landscape maintenance, plant care, tool and equipment upkeep, and keeping the compound clean and well presented.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain lawns, flower beds, shrubs, hedges, trees and other landscaped areas, mowing, trimming, weeding and pruning regularly.
• Remove fallen leaves, dead plants, branches and other garden waste.
• Water plants according to their needs and the weather, and plant and transplant vegetation as required.
• Monitor plants for pests, diseases and poor growth, and apply fertilizers, compost, manure and approved pest-control treatments.
• Operate lawnmowers, trimmers, pruning tools, rakes, hoes, shovels and watering equipment safely, and keep tools clean and stored properly.
• Keep the compound, gardens, lawns, pathways and common areas clean and tidy, and clear overgrown vegetation and debris.
• Follow the gardening schedule, report issues such as water supply, irrigation or pest problems, and cooperate with other compound staff.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of experience as a gardener, preferably in a residential compound, hotel, facility, landscaping company or similar setting.
• Previous experience in a compound or institutional environment is an advantage.
• Physically fit and able to perform outdoor and manual work for long periods in hot and demanding weather.

Required skills

• Practical knowledge of gardening, landscaping, plant care, pruning, watering and lawn maintenance.
• Experience using common gardening tools and equipment.
• Basic knowledge of fertilizers, pesticides, plant diseases and pest control, and ability to identify common plant health problems.
