Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist

About the role

Education Development Center (EDC) seeks a Gender and Social Inclusion Specialist to support the development of Somalia’s National Teacher Professional Development Plan. The role will ensure gender equality and social inclusion are embedded throughout the plan, especially for female teachers in rural, nomadic, and conflict‑affected settings.

Key responsibilities

• Lead gender and social inclusion analysis within the broader situational assessment for the TPDP.
• Identify barriers to participation in continuing professional development for female teachers and other underserved groups.
• Provide technical input to make TPDP policies and implementation approaches gender‑responsive and inclusive.
• Advise on inclusive CPD delivery models suitable for low‑resource, low‑connectivity, and geographically dispersed contexts.
• Integrate gender and inclusion considerations into stakeholder consultations with MoECHE, Federal Member States, teacher training colleges, teacher associations, Islamic scholar networks, and development partners.
• Help ensure indicators, baseline tools, and reporting capture sex‑disaggregated and inclusion‑sensitive data.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Education, Social Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience, including gender‑responsive program design and work in fragile or conflict‑affected education settings.
