National Ombuds (Somalia) – Child Protection

About the role
The National Ombuds for SOS Children’s Villages Somalia will work independently to ensure children and young people are safe and heard across all SOS programmes. Based in Mogadishu, this full‑time limited contract position reports to the Regional Ombuds and supports the organisation’s safeguarding mission.
Key responsibilities
- Build awareness of child protection principles and promote preventive measures.
- Facilitate child participation and ensure safe environments in all SOS services.
- Listen to concerns, provide guidance, and seek local solutions while respecting confidentiality, independence, impartiality and informality.
- Apply dispute‑resolution techniques to resolve issues fairly.
- Act as a check‑and‑balance to SOS safeguarding processes.
- Identify trends, produce recommendations, and report findings to the Regional Ombuds.
Required profile
- Minimum 5 years experience in an ombudsperson, child protection, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong commitment to impartiality, independence and informal problem‑solving.
- Excellent listening and communication skills with children and young people.
