Protection of Family Links Field Officer – Mogadishu

About the role

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) seeks two Protection of Family Links (PFL) Field Officers to support its Restoring Family Links (RFL) programme in Somalia. Based in Mogadishu, the role involves frequent travel across the country to assist families, coordinate tracing activities, and support humanitarian operations in detention settings.

Key responsibilities

• Identify national PFL needs and contribute to the implementation of the PFL strategy.
• Visit SRCS RFL offices, provide on‑site coaching to officers and volunteers.
• Conduct joint field assessments with SRCS teams or multidisciplinary ICRC groups.
• Perform quality checks on tracing requests and ensure timely follow‑up of cases.
• Support management of dead activities, including logistics, administration, translation coordination and budgeting.
• Liaise with IDP camps, local authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders on PFL matters.
• Develop and maintain a network of contacts among traditional leaders, humanitarian organisations and civil society.
• Participate in PFL meetings, draft minutes, and prepare analytical reports on needs and activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, political science or a related field.
• Minimum four years of experience in a busy humanitarian environment focusing on protection or human‑rights activities.
• Experience with data management is an advantage.
• Proven ability to work independently and in multicultural settings.
• Excellent organisational and communication abilities.
