Consultant for VSLA Training and Follow‑up in Jowhar, Somalia

About the role

The European Committee for Agricultural Training (CEFA) seeks an experienced consultant to design, deliver and monitor a training programme for 300 beneficiaries organized in 20 Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups in Jowhar, Somalia. The assignment supports CEFA’s ARISE project, which aims to improve water access and inclusive sanitation while strengthening community‑based financial mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a gender‑sensitive training curriculum tailored to VSLA members.
• Facilitate training sessions for 20 groups (approximately 15 members each) covering savings, loan management, and record‑keeping.
• Provide on‑site follow‑up visits to monitor implementation, collect performance data and address challenges.
• Prepare regular progress reports and recommendations for CEFA and the local partner SHARDI.
• Coordinate with project staff to ensure alignment with broader water‑access and sanitation objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in community‑based financial services, VSLA facilitation or similar grassroots training programmes.
• Familiarity with humanitarian or development contexts in Somalia or the Horn of Africa.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently in field settings and travel within the Jowhar district.
