Protection Officer – Return, Reintegration & Mixed Migration (P2P)

About the role

The Protection Officer will lead field‑level coordination, implementation and quality assurance of the Danish Refugee Council’s Return, Reintegration and Mixed Migration (P2P) protection programme in Mogadishu and surrounding South‑Central return and transit sites.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate vulnerability screening, protection risk assessments and rights‑based case management for migrants and returnees.
• Provide technical guidance to DRC caseworkers and partners, ensuring safe identification and referral of GBV, child protection, trafficking and other specialized concerns.
• Manage immediate protection assistance (IPA) and facilitate referrals to MHPSS, health, legal aid, shelter, documentation, livelihoods and other services.
• Support structured individual and group psychosocial support (PSS) and link returnees to economic recovery pathways, including skills training, self‑employment and financial inclusion.
• Conduct regular community and route‑based protection monitoring, guide monitors, and ensure rapid response to emerging protection risks.
• Strengthen referral systems, contribute to cross‑border case‑management pilots, and use anonymised data for programme adaptation and advocacy.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in protection, case management and humanitarian programme delivery.
• Knowledge of migration, return, reintegration and mixed migration dynamics in Somalia.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local partners, economic recovery teams and monitoring staff.
• Strong understanding of GBV, child protection and trafficking referral mechanisms.
